日本では毎年、何千人もの人々が忽然と姿を消している。彼らは「蒸発者」と呼ばれ、人間関係のトラブル、借金、ヤクザからの脅迫など、さまざまな理由で失踪する。その中にはいわゆる 「夜逃げ屋」から支援を受けて、どこか別の場所で新しい生活を始める者もいる。映画「蒸発」は、日本の蒸発という現象に迫りながら、失踪者と残された人々の心の葛藤と和解の道のりを描く。
